“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” |

Get involved and have fun too! Join the Yolo Basin Foundation’s family of volunteers and meet great people, increase your knowledge of various habitats and native wildlife, and give to your local community. There are multiple areas where you can help out. Whether you thrive on dynamic interactions with adults and children or prefer to share your expertise in a much needed administrative roll, we have a place just for you.
Yolo Basin Volunteers also have the unique opportunity
to participate in specialized trainings as well as go on fun
and informative field trips both at the Yolo Wildlife Area
and surrounding local areas. What are you waiting for? Call
Sarah Ross today at (530) 757-4828 to become a Yolo Basin
Foundation volunteer!
Become a local naturalist expert and help teachers and Yolo Basin Foundation staff
with the Discover the Flyway school program. The Discover
the Flyway school program hosts over 4,000 K-12 students
from five counties and trains about 50 teachers a year in wetland
habitats and wildlife. Docents lead learning stations, assist
with field supplies, help develop program tools, and team with
staff for Yolo Wildlife Area walks.
Prospective Discover the Flyway docents must be able to volunteer on weekdays, as the program runs Tuesday through Friday, 8:00am – approximately 11:30am throughout the school year.
Lead public tours of the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area. Learn and share fascinating facts about the history of the Wildlife
Area and the Bypass as well as promote the Yolo Basin Foundation
through a brief introduction, membership sign-up and flier distribution
to tour participants. YBWA docents quickly become experts
on local birds and the natural history of this unique and multi-functional
eco-system.
Throughout the year, Yolo Basin Foundation organizes special
events such as fundraising dinners, local festivals, or onsite
maintenance. Our volunteers are our number one resource for
making these events a success. Special Events/Administration
volunteers are often involved with large mailings, event set-up,
fund-raising coordination, as well as interpretive display design
and implementation. Special Projects volunteers are also
needed.
Lead tours to the City of Davis Wetlands at the Water Pollution Control Plant. Learn about the various biological processes that enhance water quality, the
advantages of a native plant community, and see hundreds of shorebirds in the site’s mudflats. Docents participate in a two day training and commit to lead or assist on two tours over a 12-month time frame.
